2009 Marks 40 Years of Community Growth and Betterment at MYCS

MCKEESPORT, PA (May 28, 2009) – Founded in 1969, MYCS has spent the last 40 years growing, developing and making positive changes in service to the greater Mon Valley region. Through the years, MYCS has made critical changes in the way they serve their clients and the community. The organization has made a transition from a service-based model to a recovery-based model. Instead of offering services based on what clients need to function, MYCS takes a more proactive approach by becoming more holistically involved in a client’s care. MYCS works to foster hope, renewal, healing and wellness for those who face the challenges of mental health issues, substance abuse disorders and developmental disabilities.

MYCS now equips clients with methods and resources for living a better, fuller life no matter what their uniqus circumstances may be. This approach allows MYCS to be more wellness-oriented, and focused on recovery. Caregivers, clinicians and counselors are able to offer care that meets the needs of the client, and their family as well. The organization becomes entrenched in client recovery by educating and equipping individuals and families with the tools and guidance they need to pursue a life of wellness.

MYCS’s Executive Director, Noreen Fredrick, feels that MYCS is truly a unique service provider for McKeesport and its surrounding areas. “Through the years, we have attended to the needs to the community. We try to help each client reach their own goals of recovery.” Fredrick also understands the importance of serving those who need recovery most: “We are mission-driven, and we strive to serve everyone who falls under the goals and initiatives outlined in our mission.” The growth and success of MYCS has not gone unnoticed by Fredrick: “We’ve been through a lot, and the organization has grown tremendously. It has been a privilege to serve this organization.”

MYCS continues to focus on the following recovery-based programs at our McKeesport campus, and throughout the Mon Valley region:

Mental Health
Vocational Services
Developmental Disabilities
Drug and Alcohol
Case Management
Residential Services
