MYCS Hosts Annual Autumnfest Celebration at Angora Gardens in White Oak Park
MCKEESPORT, PA (October 31, 2008) – On Saturday, September 27th, MYCS hosted Autumnfest – the organization’s yearly commemoration of the fall season, and a celebration of MYCS programs at Angora Gardens in White Oak Park. Autumnfest features a variety of food, music, local vendors, Angora rabbits, crafts, face painting, a historic farmhouse, flea market and a Chinese auction.
This year, over 200 people enjoyed perusing local vendors offering a variety of gifts and crafts, from handmade rugs to pumpkin painting. Autumnfest also featured a voter registration table, and a bake sale provided by NAMI (National Association on Mental Illnesses). Guests were also invited to tour the grounds, and make bids on over 20 gift baskets that included tickets to sporting events, comfort items and more.
Cece Stack, Supervisor of Rehabilitation Services, was excited by the event’s success and results: “I was very pleased with the turn-out at Autumnfest. It was a great way to showcase Angora Gardens and MYCS Programs. It’s nice to provide people in our community with a nice fall event. Our volunteers, vendors and individuals were instrumental in making Autumnfest successful.”
Angora Gardens is a place of recovery and growth for MYCS clients. They work in the gift shop, tend the garden and care for several English and French Angora rabbits that live in the estate’s barn. Angora Gardens is open to the public for house, garden and barn tours and for special events. The gift shop offers high-quality artwork created by individuals we serve and volunteers. A variety of annuals, perennials and herbs grow in the greenhouse.
